I Swallowed a Bell

Oh the joy of parenting.....how many parents can say, "My kid ate a bell."

Skylar came rushing down the stairs at about 10:30 p.m. a few nights ago screaming that he had swallowed his bell. It took us about 10 minutes to actually understand what we were hearing.

"You did a what?"

"Swallowed my bell!!"

"You swallowed a bell?"

"YES!  THE BELL!  IT'S DOWN MY THROAT!"

..........................................................................*long pause to process what I just heard*

"WAIT!  THE......BELL?"

"YESSSSSSS MOMMY, THE.......RED.....*heavy breathing"  ONE!"

"aw crap."

Of course this was our first experience with him experimenting with objects in his mouth, so we scooped him up and rushed him to the emergency room, just to make sure it wasn't lodged anywhere other than the belly.

The bell was a small decorative, red one that I had found when cleaning out a few boxes from the garage.  It sat on his nightstand for a few days in a small jar. I asked him why he swallowed it and he said that he didn't mean to swallow it, he just wanted to see what it taste like and it went down.

After a hospital emergency room x-ray showing it was indeed in the belly, we came home and played the waiting game with bathroom visits. The bell came jingling out about four days later. Needless to say it wasn't red anymore and Skylar won’t be eating anymore bells in the future.

The one on the left used to be red like the one on the right.  Skylar now wears it around his neck to tell people the story. Fun memories with this story, that's for sure!

  2. To be quite honest, it scared the fire out of us. But, he knows now not to swallow anything like that again.

    Thanks for stopping by!:)
